Plexiglass Cubes
Tabula Rasa
11 June – 2 July 2015
Shown together for the first time, Alois Kronschlaeger’s installation of three plexiglass cubes sits nestled into a corner. The tower-like, linear progression never touches the floor, but it evokes the illusion of a cube dissolving into air. The topmost cube, with its fully intact grid structure, is made of frosted plexiglass, while the two cubes below have been rendered in clear plexiglass and feature progressively more dramatic cuts. With their sleek lines and muted tones, the cubes reference the avant-garde forms of Constructivism and post-Minimalism, as well as the rich historical lineage of artworks installed in corners by such artists as Dan Flavin, Vladimir Tatlin, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Lynda Benglis and others.
