Vertical Reflection

Daniele Basso started his activities in the Milan fashion setting, cooperating with Gianni Versace. He gained expertise in communication with Publicis, as well as in design with Versace Group, Ermenegildo Zegna, and FIAT Auto, working in both New York and Paris. In 2006, he founded GlocalDesign, a strategic design office whose motto is Think Globally, Act Locally.  GlocalDesign focuses on fashion, interior design, and lighting design. Driven by a keen curiosity for mirrored steel surfaces, he first started significant partnerships and projects with various renowned Italian design brands including Krizia, Moncler, Napapijri, Mila Schon, Molteni & C, Swarovski, SanPatrignano, Italamp, Slide, and the Federico Fellini Foundation. Basso started working as an artist in 2010 and participated in Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition twice.  He has exhibited his works in New York, Paris, Dubai, Lugano, Monte-Carlo, Forte Dei Marmi, Vatican City, Milan, Bologna, and Naples. His works can be seen in several permanent collections, including the Portofino Park Museum, where “We=Wall” (a section of the Berlin Wall in mirror-finish steel) is displayed. In 2015, his collection “Vertical Reflection” and his sculpture “We Have a Dream” was displayed at Galleria Ca’ d’Oro New York.   Also in 2015, his sculpture “Coke It’s Me” was commissioned by Coca-Cola to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the iconic Contour Bottle.

The most exciting cities today are hopelessly vertical. Vertical emotions of daring shapes in concrete, glass and steel,

where nature struggles to the surface, living creatures climbing great heights to survive…

“Vertical Reflection” is a collection of steel, felt, and wood. It explores vertical modernity meeting horizontal tradition; fast-paced fashion versus the paralysis of conventions; and the boundary between private and public dimensions, trends, and beliefs. Basso has described the collection as “a vertical reflection of thoughts and hints that metaphorically mark the stages of man’s journey in search for the meaning of life. At first color: surface, questions; then shapes: research, commitment, choice; then matter: answers, individual certainties.” Basso intends these works to encourage awareness and test our limits, which represent the evolutionary heritage of society as a whole, trace the boundaries of change and disclose the future of mankind, defining the meaning of life and our own existence.
